“We cover pretty much everything when it comes to imaging,” says Jesse Robertson, Director of Imaging at CVRMC. “From mammography and CT scans to advanced heart imaging, we’re proud to bring high-quality diagnostic tools to our patients, close to home.”

CVRMC’s Imaging Center is home to some of the most advanced equipment available—not just in rural Arizona, but across the region.

In fact, CVRMC was the first facility on the West Coast to offer spectral CT technology, a major advancement over traditional CT scanners. Spectral CT captures more detailed information from each scan, helping doctors diagnose conditions faster and more accurately.

“For example, with spectral CT, we can determine the type of kidney stone a patient has, which helps doctors tailor treatment,” explains Robertson. “We’re also using it for heart scans. We can capture a clear image of the heart in a single beat to check for blockages.”

CVRMC has also partnered with HeartFlow to provide Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) analysis, a cutting-edge tool that maps blood flow through the heart’s arteries. “It’s a game-changer,” says Robertson. “This technology used to only be available at major hospitals, but now we’re offering it right here. It helps determine if a patient needs further care, like a visit to the Cath Lab, without invasive procedures.”

The Imaging Center isn’t just about high-end machines—it’s about improving the entire patient experience. CVRMC uses PowerShare, a secure system that allows imaging results to be shared electronically with doctors and patients in minutes.

Gone are the days of waiting for discs or printouts. “We can even generate a QR code that links directly to your images,” says Robertson. “Patients can scan it with their phone and instantly access their results. It’s fast, secure, and convenient—especially when patients are seeing specialists or receiving cancer care elsewhere.”

Even though CVRMC serves a smaller population, the Imaging Center is staffed with highly trained, cross-licensed technologists—many of whom are certified in multiple specialties like MRI, CT, mammography, and more. This flexibility keeps the department running efficiently, even during nights, weekends, and emergencies.

For complex cases, CVRMC partners with Red Partners, a group of expert radiologists based in Las Cruces, NM, who read images and return reports quickly—often within the hour for emergency room patients.

The team also uses artificial intelligence (AI) to assist in detecting fractures, strokes, and signs of cancer, providing an extra layer of precision. But as Robertson emphasizes, “AI is a tool. Our radiologists still make the final call, ensuring every diagnosis benefits from both technology and human expertise.”
