Reliable, Local Laboratory Services

CVRMC Laboratory Department provides testing in Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, Urinalysis, Serology, and Blood Bank. We also provide blood collection and drug screen collection services. Within the last year the laboratory has drawn 66,000 patients performing over 400,000 tests. Laboratory test results constitute a significant portion of the patient’s medical records and are vital to the diagnosis and treatment of illness and disease.

Examples of common laboratory tests include tests to detect anemia, diagnose diabetes or strep throat, or doing blood typing tests to provide a transfusion to an accident victim.

Professional duties include:

  • Operating computerized instruments
  • Identifying abnormal cells
  • Assuring safe transfusion of blood products, culture and identifying bacteria
  • Correlating test results with patient conditions.

Outstanding Ratings from CAP

The College of American Pathologists (CAP) is the leading organization of board-certified pathologists that serves patients, pathologists, and the public by fostering and advocating excellence in the practice of pathology and laboratory medicine.

CAP is the provider of all components of quality management including quality systems, standard-setting, technical procedures, and comprehensive and integrated programs. There are over 1,600 checks — a blueprint of quality practices — that a facility must go through to ensure excellence in patient safety and compliance. The CVRMC Laboratory only had six minor deficiencies.

“There is nothing better than inspecting an ‘excellent’ laboratory. Compliments to Dr. Sajit Vinayak (Pathologist), Traci Stewart (Lab Director), and her staff for getting it done at a very high level in both the patient care area and the regulatory requirements needed. The College of American Pathologists appreciates the service this lab gives to your patients. It is not very often we see a facility with this level of compliance.”
