New Kearny Clinic Set to Open in June 2025, Expanding Healthcare Access in Rural Arizona

The Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center (CVRMC) has been a vital part of the Kearny community since 2008. Initially overseeing the hospital through an agreement with the Copper Basin Community Healthcare Foundation, CVRMC has continuously worked to improve local healthcare.

Kearny temporary modular facility

In 2020, the old hospital—at the end of its life and requiring constant repairs—was demolished thanks to a grant. Recognizing the need for continued medical services, the foundation generously gifted CVRMC the land from the former hospital to build a brand-new, state-of-the-art clinic. During construction, a modular facility was brought in from Globe as a temporary solution, though it required reinforcement multiple times to withstand the elements.

Expanding Services for the Kearny Community

CVRMC’s commitment to expanding healthcare access is evident in the services the new clinic will offer. In addition to primary care, patients will have access to orthopedics, podiatry, general surgery, dietetics, and OB/GYN services. The clinic will also cater to local industries with occupational medicine services, including physicals, respirator fit testing, X-rays, and fit-for-duty evaluations for mine workers.

New nurses station

Specialized care will also see major improvements. A modern physical therapy facility—featuring top-tier flooring and equipment—will provide cutting-edge rehabilitation services. Meanwhile, a new retail pharmacy will make prescription access easier than ever, eliminating the need for residents to travel out of town for medications.

Bringing Big-City Care to a Small Town

Frank Stapleton, a key figure in the clinic’s development, emphasized the importance of convenience and high-quality care in a rural setting.

“The convenience factor cannot be overstated. We want to keep the clinic as accessible as possible and provide as many services as we can to this community.”

CVRMC’s goal is to bring big-city healthcare quality to Kearny while maintaining the personalized care that small towns are known for.

“Patients will see the same quality specialists here as they would if they drove to the Valley,” Frank added. “The standard of care will be the same—or even better—because it’s a more localized, personalized experience.”

Jason Graham, another leader in the project, reinforced this vision:

“We want our patients to have an excellent experience from the moment they walk in. Whether it’s seeing a provider, filling a prescription, getting an X-ray, or starting physical therapy, every part of their visit should be seamless and positive.”

Emergency Services and Proactive Healthcare

Another exciting addition to the Kearny Clinic is a new EMT station and ambulance building, complete with updated living quarters and amenities for emergency medical technicians. This investment ensures that emergency services remain local, reducing the need for costly ambulance transfers to distant hospitals.

Future On-Site Pharmacy

Beyond treating immediate healthcare needs, CVRMC is also focusing on proactive, population-based healthcare. The clinic will implement outreach efforts to help residents stay on top of preventative screenings such as mammograms, colonoscopies, and general health checks.

“We’ve recently put a lot of resources into proactive patient outreach,” Jason said. “We’re actively reaching out to patients to encourage preventive care, which is essential for long-term community health.”

Opening Soon: What To Expect

The new Kearny Clinic is set to open in June 2025. While there is still work to be done—including safely removing the temporary modular unit—CVRMC is on track for a successful launch.

To celebrate, the clinic will host an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony, along with community tours to showcase the new facility. Once open, the clinic will operate Monday through Friday, with the pharmacy maintaining similar hours. While appointments are encouraged for non-emergency visits, same-day and walk-in appointments will be available to ensure flexibility for patients.

With its expanded services, modern equipment, and commitment to quality, local healthcare, the new Kearny Clinic is set to make a lasting impact on the community for years to come.
